FAISALABAD: An 11-year-old boy died after sustaining severe wounds when the scrap dealer who had employed him beat him with an iron rod for working slowly here in the city's Ghulam Muhammad Abad area, police sources said.

The wounded boy — identified as Badil — succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Faisalabad's Allied Hospital. A post-mortem was carried out on the body whereafter it was handed over to the deceased's family.

The suspect was identified as Irfan, a scrap dealer working in Ghulam Muhammad Abad, police sources said, adding that he and his co-worker beat the 11-year-old boy with an iron rod so severely that he had to be shifted immediately to the hospital, where he, unfortunately, passed away.

The 11-year-old's bereaved family then staged a protest to demand the arrest of the primary suspect and his accomplice. They burned tyres and shut off the road for traffic.

Police reached the protest site to negotiate with the protesters, who left only after the authorities assured them that both the suspects would be arrested soon.
