Netflix has dropped the trailer for the third season of teen suicide drama 13 Reasons Why.

The new season is set eight months after the events of the second season where Clay Jensen helped prevent school mate Tyler from going on a mass shooting spree at Spring Fling.

The new season will take the form of a murder mystery and will focus on the murder of Bryce Walker.

The logline of the third season reads, “Eight months after preventing Tyler from committing an unthinkable act at Spring Fling, Clay, Tony, Jessica, Alex, Justin, and Zach find ways to shoulder the burden of the cover-up together while helping Tyler move toward recovery."

"But when the aftermath of a tumultuous Homecoming game culminates in the disappearance of a football player, and Clay finds himself under police scrutiny, it's up to a shrewd outsider to steer the group through an investigation that threatens to lay bare everyone's deepest secrets.

"The stakes are raised in this riveting third season of 13 Reasons Why, as the consequences of even the most well-intended actions can alter a life forever."

Based on the book by Jay Asher, the controversial 2017 show, which follows high school student Hannah Baker who leaves audio cassette recordings to her 13 friends documenting the reasons why she decided to end her life, is set to return on August 23.

The first season of the show was narrated by Hannah, the second featured her peers telling their stories.

The second season also followed the lawsuit and trial her parents pursued against the school district.
