HARIPUR: Police has arrested six culprits in Haripur incident where a 50-year-old woman was stripped naked and paraded in public for more than an hour, Geo News reported.
Police conducted raids in Neelor Bala village in Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to arrest the accused allegedly involved in abusing the woman.
Legal experts opined that the culprits can even be sentenced to death under the sections of law framed against them.
Deputy Inspector General of Police-Hazara, Muhammad Naeem Khan said that six main culprits including Suleman and his two brothers have been arrested while the search for one more is underway.
The affected woman told Geo News that Suleman doubted that her son Kazim has illicit relationship with Sumera Bibi, the wife of Suleman. Therefore, Suleman along with his three brothers and three other villagers barged into her house on June 7 to punish Kazim.
The attackers could not find Kazim so they dragged her to the street, physically tortured her and later paraded her naked in the village in presence of dozens of villagers.
DIG Hazara and District Police Officer (DPO) Haripur Mohammad Ali Gandapur led the police parties that conducted raids in Neelor Bala village, sited around 40 kilometres from Haripur city in the jurisdiction of the Saddar Police Station.
DIG Police would present a complete report to the government before June 23. The commissioner is heading an inquiry committee tasked by the provincial government to probe the shocking incident.
