Newly-wed Naimal Khawar Khan, a former actress and now the wife of film star Hamza Ali Abbasi, on Wednesday slammed the "narrative of 'saving me'", saying she was "a consenting adult woman capable of making my own decisions".

The former actress took to Twitter to thank her fans and admirers for the good wishes and "to address a few things" following the conclusion of her wedding festivities.

She stressed that "this narrative of 'saving me' is nothing short of demeaning my right to choose for myself".

Naimal said she understood the celebrities, who are in the spotlight most of the time, often face a lot of people commenting on their personal lives as well as their politics and viewpoints. Keeping that in mind, she requested her well-wishers to not "distort facts".

In her tweet, she said: "I left acting 9 months ago and the decision was entirely mine. Dont spread false news to sensationalize someone's special day."

'The entire story'

The Anaa actress had married The Legend of Maula Jatt actor last weekend in an intimate wedding ceremony, with a valima reception hosted Monday evening.

The two were married in a private nikkah at the picturesque Monal in the federal capital earlier on Sunday.

At their wedding, Naimal donned a light gold ethnic ensemble, with matching jewellery and minimal make-up. Hamza, on the other hand, was dressed in a white kurta shalwar with a matching waistcoat.

At their valima reception, Naimal wore a sparkling white gown with silver jewellery and dewy make-up, whereas Hamza sported a plain black shalwar kameez and a waistcoat.

Among the guests were Atif Aslam, Uzair Jaswal, and Ammara Hikmat.

Last week, Hamza Ali Abbasi had confirmed the rumours of his marriage with a detailed post on social media, in which he had recounted how his "platonic" friendship with Naimal eventually resulted into this union. He had also declined to speak on talk shows about his marriage.

"We were just frnds for 2 yrs & recently Allah put it in my heart to ask her to marry me for reasons i mentioned and she said yes... Thts the entire story," he had said in a tweet.
