KARACHI: As forecasted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Karachi weather has once again turned rainy and with a shower, coupled with a thunderstorm, hitting the city briefly and mildly late Wednesday after a hot and humid day.
The first half of the day in the metropolis was otherwise sunny and hot yet devoid of the usual breeze that hinted at upcoming showers.
Regarding Karachi weather, the PMD had said: "Monsoon currents are penetrating southern parts of the country."
The weather forecasting agency further noted in its report earlier today that rain and thunderstorm with strong winds would be experienced at scattered places in parts of Sindh, including Karachi.
Further, in view of that heavy rains that lashed Sanghar, Tharparkar, Badin, and Mirpurkas a day prior, Karachiites were expecting the same for their city.
The city experienced heavy rainfall and thunder in several areas, including Liaquatabad, F.B. Area, M.A. Jinnah Road, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Saadi Town, Sohrab Goth, North Karachi, New Karachi, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Waterpump Chowrangi, Malir, Clifton, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
A food-stall owner in the metropolis' Saddar area, Mohammad Mushtaq, said: "We are scared of urban flooding that has already severely disrupted our lives."
Mushtaq echoed many Karachiites who were equally concerned as nothing adequate was seen on ground that might be considered as preparation for any possible emergency situation.
Long queues of vehicles were seen on the main Shahrah-e-Faisal artery as heavy rainfall impacted the city's traffic.
Heavy rainfall witnessed at North Karachi was recorded at 32 millimetres (mm), 28mm in Saddar, and 20mm in University Road.
The PMD, however, warned that the fresh spell of rains that started Wednesday night was expected to persist at regular intervals for next two days, with possible thunderstorm on Thursday.
According to the weather forecasting agency, the recent spell is due to low pressure over the Bay of Bengal and may end Friday, with chances of drizzle.
Temperature on Wednesday ranged 27-30°C and may hit 29°C on Thursday, with 90 percent precipitation and 77 percent humidity.
