Fourth spell of monsoon rains hits the city; Thado dam overflows

KARACHI: As much as the rain spells brought respite to the scorched city, several areas plunged into darkness on Monday as 200 K-Electric (KE) feeders tripped.

The fourth spell of monsoon rains hit the city recently, due to which various areas of Karachi received moderate to heavy showers.

Along with the rain, power outage also hit areas such as Lyari, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Korangi, Karimabad, PIB Colony etc.

Meanwhile, the dead level rose three inches inside Thado dam, due to which overflowing water entered into adjacent localities.

Pakistan Meteorological Department's chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz told Geo News that the latest monsoon spell, which caused heavy showers on Sunday, is expected to last until tomorrow (Tuesday), resulting in a total of 40-50mm rain in the metropolis.

According to the official, monsoon weather is expected to continue in Karachi until September 30, and another bout of rain is predicted to enter the city in the next four or five days.

On Sunday, Sudden, stormy rainfall flooded the streets of Karachi and brought traffic to a standstill in parts of the city.
