OBL commission: govt writes to CJP
ISLAMABAD: The government has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry asking to nominate a Supreme Court judge to head an inquiry commission tasked with investigating May 2 US Abbottabad raid that killed Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden (OBL), Geo News reported.

Federal Secretary Law and Justice Masood Chishti sent a letter to Registrar Supreme Court on June 18 regarding the commission.

The government had earlier constituted a five members commission headed by SC Judge Justice Javed Iqbal in the light of the joint resolution passed in the incamera session of the parliament to probe the Abbottabad incident.

The commission consisted of Justice Fakhruddin G Ibrahim (retd), Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed (retd), Abbas Khan and Ashraf Jahnagir Qazi.

However after severe criticism by PML-N and other opposition parties and refusal of Fakhruddin Ibrahim to become part of the commission the commission was shelved.
