GILGIT: The Chief Election Commissioner in Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday issued the schedule for general elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly to be held on June 8.
Speaking at a press conference here today, the Chief Election Commissioner in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Justice (retd) Syed Tahir Ali Shah said that nomination papers for the polls will be accepted from April 26 to April 27.
The scrutiny of papers will commence from April 28 and will continue until May 4, after which appeals against rejected nomination papers will be accepted until May 8, he said.
Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nomination papers until May 16, while the final list of candidates will be issued by the election commission on May 17.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly completed its five year tenure on December 10 last year, but a caretaker setup announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been governing the region since then.
