PM Imran likely to visit Saudi Arabia, breakthrough expected on Kashmir issue: sources

ISLAMABAD: A breakthrough on Kahsmir is expected during Prime Minister Imran Khan's  visit to Saudi Arabia, which he is due to undertake after his return from China, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.

The sources said the prime minister will hold a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman during which the breakthrough is expected.

The prime minister has been raising concern on human rights violations in occupied Kahsmir since New Delhi revoked special status of the Muslim majority region on August 5.

He also highlighted Indian atrocities in the occupied territory during his address to the United Nations General Assembly session in September, warning of a 'massacre'.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is in Beijing on a two-day visit to hold meetings with the Chinese leadership, including Chinese President Xi Jinping. 

On Wednesday, the Chinese president backed Pakistan, saying he he was watching the situation in Indian occupied Kashmir and would support Pakistan in issues related to its core interests. 

During a meeting in Beijing, Xi told PM Imran Khan that the rights and wrongs of the situation were clear.

“China supports Pakistan to safeguard its own legitimate rights and hopes that the relevant parties can solve their disputes through peaceful dialogue,” Xi said, according to Xinhua.
