HYDERABAD: At least 41 students were hospitalised on Thursday after they ate cake provided by their school here in the city, a health official confirmed, adding that all of them were thankfully out of any danger.

The students, all 41 of whom reside in the hostel of a school near Hyderabad's Hatri Bypass, reportedly vomited and multiple others lost consciousness after consuming the cake and other breakfast items earlier in the day.

Speaking to Geo News, the medical administrator at the Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad, Sattar Jatoi, said all the children — who are between the ages of four and 12 — were safe and not in any danger. The students were rushed to the medical facility after some of them started to throw up, he added, noting that many of them were now relatively better.

The children maintained that they felt sick after eating the cake and other breakfast items provided by their school.

The school's administration, on the other hand, stressed that three or four children reported having vomited after the food given to them, following which all of them were brought to the hospital for a check-up as a precautionary measure.
