ISLAMABAD: Leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday said that opposition's Azadi March rally in Islamabad has been postponed due to a train incident that claimed over 70 lives in Rahim Yar Khan.

Speaking to Geo News, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Ahsan Iqbal said it has been unanimously decided by the opposition's Rahbar Committee to hold the rally on Friday.

The PML-N stalwart said Rahbar Committee members were leading rallies towards Islamabad.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb also said the rally has been postponed.

Responding to PML-N leader's statement, JUI-F leader Ghafoor Haidri said  anybody who is claiming the rally has been postponed or cancelled is hatching a conspiracy.

He said he was not contacted by Marrium Auranzeb to discuss the rally.

Earlier, Maulana Fazlur Reham while addressing his party workers said the Azadi March would continue.

The Azadi March protesters who set out from Karachi on October 27 have been camping near Gujar Khan since Wednesday, some 53 kilometers from the capital.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has vowed to deseat Prime Minister Imran Khan by marching to the federal capital.

Ruling out any such possibility, the prime minister had set up a seven-member committee to hold talks with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and other opposition parties that are united under the umbrella of Rahbar Committee.

After several rounds of talks, both the committees agreed that  the protesters of Azadi March would gather in Islamabad's Sunday Bazaar and refrain from entering the Red Zone.
