ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan has informed the Supreme Court (SC) that 35 million fraudulent names have been removed from the voters list and NADAR has included 36 million new voters to its database, Geo News reported.
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan which sought the inclusion of pictures in voters lists.
During proceedings the secretary of Election Commission informed the court that authentication of voters began on July 18 and will be completed by August 16. The voters list will be completed by December 2011.
During proceedings Chief Justice iftikhar Chaudhry remarked that the issue of voters list with pictures should not be taken negatively and elections in Pakistan should be free and transparent.
The court adjourned the hearing on the petition for an indefinite time.
