FAISALABAD: The family of a woman who was beaten publicly after a feudal lord accused her of infidelity on Wednesday protested against the police over their laxity in the charges against the accused.
A day prior, a woman was beaten in public on the city's outskirts after the feudal landlord — identified as Aqib (alias Kali) — of 106 Khichian village in Faisalabad's Chak Jhumra, had reportedly accused her of taking part in inappropriate activities with her neighbour. A video of the public beating had gone viral on social media.
While Chak Jhumra police did arrest at least two suspects, including Aqib, the woman and her family of Barnala village claimed that the FIR only had ordinary clauses and did not include either the relevant charges or the serious charge of forceful entry into private property.
They, therefore, protested at the District Council Chowk and brought traffic to a halt. The family explained that the suspects had not only broken and barged into their residence but also assaulted them inside their home.

They demanded that the charge of forceful entry into private property also be included in the FIR immediately. The protesters were dispersed after top police officials assured them of providing justice.
On Tuesday, the woman's father-in-law, Saleem, had claimed that the feudal lord had accused his daughter-in-law of having an extramarital relationship with his neighbour but had them beaten as punishment as well.
Taking notice of the condemnable incident of violence against women (VAW), Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had sought a report over the incident from the regional police officer (RPO), Ghulam Mehmood Dogar.
Following the incident, Chak Jhumra police had arrested two suspects, including Aqib.
