ISLAMABAD: Talks between the US and Pakistan were held over the effectiveness of law enforcement and anti-terrorism agencies, Geo News reported. Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that smuggling of narcotics played a major part in promoting terrorism.

The American delegation was lead by William Brownfield while Federal Secretary Khwaja Sadiq led Pakistan.

In the first round of talks the Interior Minister said that more that 11,000 people were killed in Pakistan due to IEDs and the production of such bombs should be halted.

The talks were also attended by CIA representatives and stakeholders in the strategic partnership. Pakistan told the US that legislation would be enacted soon against locally produced bombs and amendments in the anti-money laundering act would also be made.
