Actress Whoopi Goldberg and Donald Trump Jr, the US president’s son, got into a heated exchange on-air during an episode of the talk show, The View.
It all began after a host of the show questioned the president’s character and his habit of personal attacks against his critics, reports People Magazine.
The 41-year-old Trump quickly shot back: “We have all done things we regret.” Trump was making a reference to the time Goldberg defended film maker Roman Polanski.
Polanski was tried and sentenced to jail for drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl. Before he could be sentenced though, he fled to France.
“I mean if we’re talking about bringing the discourse down…Whoopi you’ve said Roman Polanski… it wasn’t rape-rape when he raped a child,” Don Jr said.
Goldberg then asked him if he was questioning her character. To which Trump replied: “I’m not questioning your character, you’re questioning my father’s character.”
In 2009, on the same show Goldberg had said about the Polanski incident that “it wasn’t rape-rape. I think it was something else, but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.”
