During a federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday several ministers opposed letting former prime minister Nawaz Sharif leave Pakistan for medical treatment.
The cabinet sit down, headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan, met for four hours during which one of the topics of discussion was whether to let Sharif leave the country or not. While majority of those present agreed that the ex-premier’s name be removed from the no-fly list, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Hussain Chaudhry, the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Khan Gandupur and Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari were vocal in their opposition, according to sources.
Others who chimed in to insist that Sharif be kept in the country included Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi and the Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda.
Those who supported striking his name off the ECL, included Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid.
