KASUR: A man suffering from "depression" has confessed to killing his son here in the district's Pattoki city, police said on Sunday, a day after he reportedly claimed the boy had been kidnapped.

Kasur police claimed that the man — identified as Ghulam Mohiuddin — killed his own son, five-year-old Ahsan, and threw the boy's body in a deserted area. Mohiuddin suffers from depression, they added, noting that the body was recovered after he indicated where he had ditched it.

According to police, the man had allegedly assaulted and beaten his wife to death two years ago. A day earlier, he had tried to give the impression that his son had been kidnapped when, in fact, he abducted and killed him himself, they added.

Police explained that the suspect had confessed to killing his son, Ahsan, and that upon his indicated, the deceased boy's body was recovered from a deserted area in Talib Sarai of the Manga Mandi area.

The boy's body bore visible marks of torture, police added, saying further questioning of the suspect was underway. Rescue and Crime Scene Investigation teams, as well as security officials, reached the site to gather evidence.

A day prior, a first information report (FIR) had been registered on behalf of Mohiuddin himself over the alleged kidnapping.
