KARACHI: Rangers and Police have taken control of the tense areas of Karachi following the killing of more than 80 people in five days of violence, which had started on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
KARACHI VIOLENCE UPDATES:
08:00 The wave of violence continued for the fifth consecutive day in the city and over 80 people have lost their lives. In the recent incidents of firing five more people lost their lives after 12 midnight on Saturday while four others sustained injuries.
According to police, indiscriminate firing on a bus killed one person. The bus was going towards Esa Nagri from Hassan Square. Other four persons were killed in the areas of Kati Pahari, Manghopir Road, PIB Colony and Mari Pur Road due to firing. Two people were also injured as a result of firing in PIB Colony.
Sindh Home Department has issued a notification giving Rangers additional powers. The troubled areas have also been handed over to the Rangers.
Rangers and police commandos have started patrolling in the troubled areas including Qasba colony, Banaras, Katti Pahari, Orangi and Baldi town. The LEAs have also rescued the people and shifted them to safe places.
Meanwhile, Rangers and police commandos have finalized the preparation of targeted operation in these troubled areas.
Public transport, CNG and petrol pumps are closed in these areas.
Earlier on Friday morning, armed men attacked several houses with rockets and hurled hand grenades into the residential area of Baldia Town. Terror gripped the area after the attack.
