Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur on Friday shared an unusual take on inflation, leaving many surprised, as he said that the price hike "benefited" farmers in the country.
Gandapur, who is a senior member of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said that the farmers benefited the most from inflation as the prices of vegetables and fruits had skyrocketed, providing them an edge.
The minister further stressed that it was common for prices to oscillate, but it was only the people who would eventually benefit. "Millions of farmers, our brothers, were affected when potato prices fell," he noted.
Gandapur, who was speaking to the media in Dera Ismail Khan, claimed that the government would stabilise the economy soon. Vegetable prices have skyrocketed, with tomatoes sold at Rs300-400/kg the past week.
It is also worth mentioning that earlier this month, the prime minister's finance adviser, Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, had claimed tomatoes were being sold at Rs17/kg, causing an uproar on social media.
