ISLAMABAD: Pakistan beat Ireland by three frames to two in the World Cup Snooker in Bangkok.
On the first day of the World Cup, former world champion Ken Doherty was partnered by British Open champion Fergal O'Brien but, despite putting in two century breaks to Pakistan's highest of 25, they could not overcome Muhammad Sajjad and Shahid Aftab in their group stage clash.
Irish still have a chance to qualify for next round but must beat Egypt on Wednesday.
Thailand second team of Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Passakorn Sunwannawat beat Afghanistan 3-2 , with Un-Nooh beating Mohammad Saleh in the decisive singles match.
