Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa on Sunday said that the Constitution ensures equal rights and treatment to all citizens including minorities.
Addressing the concluding session of Women Judges Conference in Lahore, Justice Khosa said that more than 300 female judges were working in district courts of Pakistan.
“Women judges have proved their abilities by giving verdicts according to law in complex cases,” the CJP said. “Women judges will soon be inducted in the Supreme Court.”
The top judge said that the contribution of women in the society was increasing with the passage of time, and emphasised the need for empowerment of women in all sectors of life.
Earlier, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Shamim Khan, while addressing the conference, said that "the judiciary plays an important role in structuring and restructuring of the society."
Justice Shamim said that gender-based violence courts were being established in Punjab to protect the rights of women and children.
