SARGODHA: A family allegedly tortured their daughter-in-law over what she claimed was her refusal to their order to sell drugs, police said Sunday, after the woman was shifted to a local hospital.

According to Sargodha police, the woman — a resident of Faiz Colony — alleged that her in-laws were forcing her to sell drugs but when she refused to comply with their orders, they resorted to assaulting her. However, when she cried for help during the beating, neighbours came in to her rescue and moved her to a nearby hospital.

Police said the woman has submitted a request to register a first information report (FIR) against her in-laws, who, following the assault, had fled.

Investigation into the matter was underway, they said, adding that legal action would be taken once facts could be ascertained.
