President of Pakistan has the right to amend or change Pervez Musharraf’s sentence, said former special assistant to Nawaz Sharif on law Barrister Zafarullah Khan on Wednesday.

“Pervez Musharraf wouldn’t even have to be in Pakistan to get the exemption,” he said in Geo News’ show Capital Talk.

He also said that president has the authority to change it to life imprisonment or terminate the sentence.

“Musharraf would have to be in the country to file the appeal,” claimed law expert Kamran Murtaza.

On the contrary, social worker Hina Jilani said: “Musharraf shouldn’t be awarded a death sentence.”

The former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf was sentenced to death  on Tuesday for imposing a state of emergency on November 3, 2007.
