May the Almighty's curse be upon me if I am lying, Sanaullah retorts to Afridi

ISLAMABAD: Former law minister Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday retorted to some scathing remarks made by the state minister for narcotics control, saying there had been no investigation while he was in prison for seven months.

The narcotics control minister, Shehryar Afridi, "is talking about a trial [but] before a trial is held, an investigation takes place," Sanaullah, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and a member of the National Assembly (MNA), said.

"I am saying this in front of everyone that no investigation was conducted while I was in prison for the past seven months. If I am lying, may the curse of the Almighty be upon me," he added.

I swear by the Almighty, I have never met any one who sells cocaine or drugs in my entire life.

The PML-N leader was released on bail on December 26, 2019, against two bonds worth Rs1 million each as per the Lahore High Court's (LHC) orders. The court had issued a detailed verdict on the bail granted to him in a drug-trafficking case, over which he was arrested back on July 1.

Sanaullah, however, had said it was not justice as the case against him was fake.

He added that an anti-terrorism court was hearing the Model Town case and that he was one of the 15 politicians. "Whatever the court decides, both parties will accept it," he said.

'Face the courts like a man'

Referring to the drugs case against him, Sanaullah noted: "I swear by the Almighty, I have never met any one who sells cocaine or drugs in my entire life."

Earlier, Afridi, also a leader of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had claimed that the former law minister was delaying a trial for the past seven months.

On January 18, the trial should begin and I challenge you to come forward and let the trial commence.

"Neither will parliament nor media decide this case," he had said. "Prime Minister Imran Khan had the moral courage to bring forth documents when he was accused in the Bani Gala case.

"If you think everything is false, then why are you running away from the trial? If you are innocent, then let the trial begin," he had challenged.

"There was also a video in the Ayyan Ali and Model Town cases. On January 18, the trial should begin and I challenge you to come forward and let the trial commence.

"Face the courts like a man," he had said.

Afridi further went on to say the government and the ministry would not let Sanaullah run from the case. "We will go till the end of this matter. We are not afraid to hold the strong and the corrupt accountable," he had said.
