RAWALPINDI: Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division Zahid Saeed on Friday said that under the 'Big City' package of Chief Minister of Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, flyover from Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Hospital to Sixth Road in the city would be constructed.
He said the traffic of Rawal Road would come on Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road) through this flyover which would have six lanes for smooth flow of traffic while an underpass would also be constructed on Rawal Road Chowk. These projects would be completed at a cost of Rs 2.300 billion.
He said this at a meeting held here to review big development projects of the city. The meeting was attended among others by members of National Assembly Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Malik Shakeel Awan and Malik Ibrar Ahmed, members of Provincial Assembly Shahrayar Riaz, Ziaullah Shah, Malik Ghulam Raza, Raja Hanif Advocate and Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Director General of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Makeen Shehbaz, Managing Director of WASA Chaudhary Naseer Ahmed, SI Highways Farhat Muneer and Consultant, National Engineering Services Pakistan (Pvt) Limited (NESPAK).
Various development projects including Tunnel project under Marrer bridge, Signal Free Leh Expressway and Nullah Leh cementing project were discussed. The participants said that the Nulleh Leh cementing project was necessary to protect the residents living near Nullah Leh particularly of low-lying areas from the flood devastations.
On this occasion, MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and MPA Shehrayar Riaz said that the parliamentarians and departments concerned have agreed on cementing of Nulleh Leh project and construction of signal free expressway on both sides of Nulleh Leh that is why the projects should be started as soon as possible.
They said the construction of the Expressway would not only provide a shortest route to the commuters of twin cities but also, it will considerably lessen the traffic load on Benazir Shaheed Road.
Malik Shakeel Awan supporting the tunnel project under Marrer Bridge said it would provide a hurdle free and safe access to Kutchary Road traffic to come on Murree road and to shift Murree road traffic to Kutchary road. He said the project would prove beneficial for the tens of thousands of motorists, who use this intersection regularly.
RDA authorities briefed the participants on these projects. Commander 495 Army Engineers, Brig. Shahid Asif and other Army Engineers were also present on this occasion. They briefed the meeting on cementing of Nullah Leh project.APP/azh/ihn
