Peshawar Zalmi captain Darren Sammy on Sunday said that he was "truly honoured" to be receiving Nishan-e-Pakistan and honorary citizenship of the country in recognition of his services.

A day after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that Sammy — one of the first foreign superstars to agree to come and play cricket in Pakistan, would be conferred with the civilian award by President Arif Alvi on March 23 — Zalmi captain reacted to the development on Twitter.

"I am truly honored to be given this civilian award. We took a small step in the right direction in 2017 and look at us here today. All the foreign players played their part," Sammy stated.

"Thank you Pakistan for the love shown to us. We only want you to experience cricket at home. #LOVEWINS."
