KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday urged a lawyer to sit down over tea and resolve his differences with his estranged family instead of having them bring their domestic dispute to court.

The lawyer's parents had earlier filed a complaint against their son, claiming that he was using the police to harass them.

The parents had complained that officers from the Sir Syed Police Station had entered their house and harassed them at their son's behest.

Detailing their dejection at the treatment given to them, the parents of the advocate said that they had earned an honest living as cleaners to give their son the best education they could.

"We still live in a shack while our son lives in a big house," they said.

While hearing the petition, Justice Muhammad Ali Azhar, who was presiding over the proceedings, lectured the son for not according his parents due respect.

"These are your parents; they gave you the education you needed to be where you are today," Justice Azhar remarked to the lawyer.

However, the advocate said his parents had nothing to do with the falling out between the two parties.

"My mother and father are innocent, and are being provoked by my siblings," the advocate alleged.

The court nonetheless told the son off.

"Take due care of your parents and resolve outstanding issues with them, lest they pass away and you be left to regret and mourn your actions for the rest of your life," the judge said.

Overwhelmed, the lawyer then left the rostrum to hug his parents.

"Whatever I am today is because of my parents. I will love them and take care of them," he promised the court.

Justice Azhar then directed the advocate to sit down with his parents and siblings to resolve their issues.

"No one will file a case against the other. Sit down with your family over a cup of tea and resolve problems," he remarked before breaking the court for recess.

The court also ordered police to cease and desist from disturbing the lawyer's parents, warning officials with a suspension order if they did not comply.
