LONDON: The London riots have spread to Bristol. Shops have been damaged and cars set on fire after disorder broke out in the city centre.
It took place in several parts of Bristol, including Cabot Circus, Broadmead, Stokes Croft and St Werburgh's.
Avon and Somerset police said a small number of arrests had been made.
The violence came as trouble spread across London for a third day and spread to other cities across England.
An extra 1,700 police officers were deployed in London but that did not stop rioting in Croydon, Camden, Peckham, Clapham, Lewisham and Ealing.
Elsewhere in the country there were reports of violence in Birmingham, Nottingham and Liverpool.
Chief Superintendent Jon Stratford of Avon and Somerset police said: "There has been a series of sporadic incidents throughout the night with a small number of people intent on causing violence and criminal damage to property.
"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated in our city."
Prime Minister David Cameron has cut short his summer holiday and is this morning chairing an emergency meeting.
