GUJRANWALA: A generous police constable has distributed cash from his own salary to labourers who were left unemployed owing to the COVID-19 slowdown in the economy.

According to a video on social media, the local constable decided to set aside Rs5,000 from his monthly salary and distributed it to the daily-wagers who have been unable to get work due a general sluggishness in business activity.

Despite a stringent lockdown, the labourers had gathered at Gujranwala's Peoples Colony in the hopes of getting work so that they could earn their daily wage and buy basic necessities.

The generous cop said he chose to help out the labourers after he saw that they were in low spirits. "I just couldn't see their despondent faces, so I decided to help them," he said.

"I had saved some money from my salary but I gave it to them," the constable added.
