Meeting reviews situation in rain-hit areas
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the concerned departments to mobilize all resources for relief work in rain-hit districts.

He said that more than one million people of six districts have been affected badly during the recent heavy rain.

This, he said while presiding over a meeting to review relief activities in the affected areas here on Wednesday.

The chief minister termed the situation as disastrous and said that the measures are being taken for provision of basic needs including tents, ration, drinking water and medicines to the effectees.

Secretary Rehabilitation Department and Director General, Provincial Disaster Management Authority Pir Bux Jamali while briefing the meeting about the situation said that in Badin District, five talukas of Badin, Shaheed Fazul Rahu, Tando Bago,Talhar and Matli were badly affected while two persons died and 198 others sustained injures in rain-related incidents in the District.

He informed that 239 relief camps have been established where more than 62162 people have been accommodated.

He informed that eight persons were killed and nine others injured in three talukas Bulri Shah Karim, Tando Muhammad Khan and Tando Ghulam Haider of rain -hit Tando Muhammad Khan District.

Some 5670 affected people have been accommodated in 63 relief camps.

Six talukas of Jhudo, Digri, Mirpurkhas, Kot Ghulam Muhammad, HBMari and Sindhri of Mirpurkhas district have been affected badly. Fourteen persons were killed and 198 other injured in various incident during heavy rain.

Some 17,257 affected people have been accommodated in two relief camps.

He said Mithi, Deplo, Chachro and Nangarparkar of Tharparkar district were badly affected where five persons were killed and eight others injured in different incidents.

Heads of Agriculture, Irrigation and Health departments also informed the meeting about the losses caused by rain and floodwater.

The meeting was attended among others by provincial ministers and Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas. (APP)
