ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday de-notified Khawaja Saad Rafique as Member National Assembly (MNA) following the election tribunal decision of re-polling in NA-125.
Faisalabad Election tribunal judge Javaid Rashid Mehboobi had declared null and void the results of the 2013 general elections on NA-125 and ordered a re-election on Monday.
The tribunal judge also ordered re-poll on the Punjab Assembly’s PP-155 constituency.
Hamid Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had challenged the victory of the PML-N's Khawaja Saad Rafique, claiming that the election in 2013 had been rigged.
Saad Rafique had bagged 123,416 votes from the constituency beating PTI’s Hamid Khan who secured 84,495 thousand votes.
The PML-N on Wednesday decided to challenge the verdict the election tribunal in the Supreme Court regarding holding re-election in Lahore’s NA-125 constituency.
Speaking at a press conference, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal questioned how his party managed to win the by-polls if the 2013 General elections were rigged.
He said that the party leadership has decided to challenge the election tribunal’s verdict in the apex court of the country following consultations with the legal experts.
