Yellow Cab scheme helps minimise unemployment: Shahbaz
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said Yellow Cab Scheme is a revolutionary step of the Punjab government which will not only help eliminate poverty but will also promote local industry as well as provide better transport facilities to the masses.

"Like Aashiyana Housing Scheme, balloting of Yellow Cab Scheme will also be held in a most transparent manner and Aashiyana Housing Scheme will be adopted as a model for scrutinizing the particulars of the applicants," he added.

The chief minister stated this while presiding over a meeting regarding Yellow Cab Scheme here Monday. He said, balloting of Yellow Cab Scheme will be held at all divisional headquarters and in the first phase, balloting will be held on August 29 in DG Khan, Multan and Rawalpindi divisions while in the second phase in other three divisions on September 7 whereas in remaining three divisions on September 10. Distribution of vehicles will be started from October 10.

Shahbaz said, the projects of provision of laptops to 100,000 male and female students, loans on soft terms and distribution of 20,000 Yellow Cabs for jobs are also included enabling the educated youth of the province to stand on their own feet.

He said that besides provision of job opportunities to the youth, reliable and best transport facilities would also be available to the masses through Yellow Cab Scheme.

Keeping in view the interest of the people in Bolan vehicles, quota of Bolan vehicles has been enhanced from 20 per cent to 40 per cent whereas 60 per cent vehicles would be Mehran.

Quota of 40 per cent vehicles has been allocated for 31 percent population of Southern Punjab. He said that transparency is the hallmark of Punjab government and all matters of Yellow Cab Scheme will also be completed in a most transparent manner.

He directed that an effective system of training of driving should be evolved for successful applicants which also included the aspect of social behaviour with the passengers.

Earlier, Secretary Transport Cap.(R) Muhammad Yousaf gave a detailed briefing with regard to Yellow Cab Scheme. He informed that committees have been constituted for balloting. He told that 2500 vehicles will be distributed every month and the process of distribution of vehicles would be completed in8 months.
