RAWALPINDI: City Police under its efforts to control one-wheeling has arrested more than 200 one-wheelers in Ramadan as the increasing trend of one-wheeling by youngsters has claimed several precious lives and a number of youngsters have sustained serious injuries.

This was stated by City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Azhar Hameed Khokhar.

He said the activity was already being checked by special squads of police officiers deputed on the city roads but now, several other arrangements have also been made to curb the activity. He informed that so far in Ramadan more than 200 one-wheelers have been arrested while a large number of youngsters were warned particularly those who were found indulged in rash driving.

Police are taking stern action against the one-wheelers and the roads particularly Rawal Road, the portion of Murree Road near Committee Chowk underpass and other attractive areas for motorcyclists are especially being covered.

He said motorcycles being used for one-wheeling were also impounded and FIRs were registered against the youngsters.

CPO Rawalpindi said that Police officers were directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them. Under special arrangements, police officials were deployed at Ayub Park, Murree Road near Underpass, Rawal Road, Sixth Road, Stadium Road and other places. The activity is especially being checked at night during Ramadan, youngsters taking benefit of the thin traffic on city roads, indulge in one-wheeling and creates troubles for other road users.

Night duties of police officers have also been arranged to control crimes and other rules violations including one-wheeling, he informed.

He said, one-wheelers are not only playing with their own lives but they are also a threat for other road users that is why stern action is taken against them.

He said the efforts to control the activity would continue and cases would be registered against one-wheelers.

He said the citizens particularly parents should come forward and play their role to curb the activity as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving are the main causes for fatal accidents.

Nowadays, youths are seen riding the two-wheelers at break-neck speed, without caring their lives, he said adding they should avoid this practice hereafter as it is in their own interest.
