RAWALPINDI: As many as 50 prisoners were released here from Adiala Jail on payment of fine by Member National Assembly, MNA, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif.

Hamza Shahbaz Sharif made the payment of fine amounting to one million rupees from his own pocket.

He also inaugurated the newly constructed barrack for lady prisoners in the Jail.

He said that Punjab government has allocated Rs 12 million for the release of the prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-fitr from all the jails of the province particularly who are unable to pay their fines.

During his visit to Adiala Jail, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif distributed Eid gifts and cash among those released from the jail including the lady prisoners.

Talking to the media, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that the prisoners facing difficulties in imprisonment due to non-payment of fines were released on the eve of Eid-ul-fitr so that they could enjoy the Eid with their families.

He said that philanthropists should come forward and help the government in this regard so that such prisoners could celebrate Eid in their homes.

Hamza Shahbaz Sharif gave the gifts, comprising one suit, sweets packet and Rs 500 to each of the 50 prisoners released from the jail besides Rs 1000 each to 55 lady prisoners from his own pocket. He also had "Iftari" with the prisoners.

Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that he is well aware of the problems of the prisoners and after the release, they should change their attitude and should become a useful citizen of the society.

He said that Punjab government is setting up a training institute for the officers of Prisons Department who will be trained by acquiring the consultants from abroad so that they could play their due role for making the prisoners useful citizen of the society by training them on modern lines.

He said that besides setting up of medical care units, generators are also being installed in 32 jails of the province.
