Pakistan on Wednesday summoned a senior Indian diplomat to register a "strong protest" over the June 9 ceasefire violations that injured four civilians in the Jandrot Sector of the Line of Control (LoC).
According to a statement by the Foreign Office, indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by Indian forces inflicted serious injuries on 26-year-old Nasreen Akhtar, 24-year-old Rabia, and two 7-year-old kids Momina and Munshi.
"The Indian occupation forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary (WB) have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons," said the statement. It added that in 2020 alone, India has committed 1,296 ceasefire violations and martyred seven civilians while injuring 98.
The FO, while condemning the incident, underscored that such senseless acts are in clear violation of the 2003 ceasefire understanding between Islamabad and New Delhi.
Pakistan told the Indian diplomat that the violations were also against all established humanitarian norms and professional military conduct.
"These egregious violations of international law reflect consistent Indian attempts to escalate the situation along the LoC and are a threat to regional peace and security," read the statement. The FO emphasised that by raising tensions with Pakistan, India cannot divert the attention from the human rights situation in occupied Kashmir.
Pakistan called upon India to let the UNMOG play its mandated role in the region. "The Indian side was also urged to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan to play its mandated role as per the United Nations Security Council Resolutions," said the statement.
The ISPR on Tuesday had shared that the Indian Army had resorted to unprovoked firing along the LoC which had left four civilians injured.
The ISPR, in a statement, had said: "Indian Army Troops initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation in Jandrot Sector along [the] LOC targeting [the] civilian population."
Four civilians, including, two women and children were critically injured in the Dera Sher Khan, Sandhara, and Bamroch villages, the military's media wing said.
According to ISPR, the injured people were evacuated to a nearby medical facility.
