QUETTA: One person died and seven others were injured after a blast took place in Turbat, Balochistan, on Tuesday morning.
Police confirmed at least seven were injured when the blast took place in the city's Turbat Bazaar area. Among the injured, two are said to be in critical condition.
Rescue efforts were underway at the site of the blast. The deceased and injured were shifted to the Turbat Civil Hospital.
The blast occurred near a car after which the vehicle caught on fire, confirmed police. A motorcycle near the site of the blast also caught on fire.
Windows of nearby buildings broke due to the intensity of the explosion.
Police cordoned off the area and an investigation was conducted into the blast.
Police said that explosive material weighing 3kg was planted at a motorcycle in the bazaar. A remote-controlled device was used to conduct the blast, confirmed police.
Two cars and an equal number of motorcycles were damaged in the incident.
Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan condemned the bomb blast, saying that the government will not let anti-state elements prevail with their agenda.
"The process of peace and development in Balochistan will continue at any cost," he said. The chief minister directed relevant authorities to ensure the injured were provided best possible medical care.
He urged police and law enforcement personnel to ensure security steps were made effective. "Action will be taken against terrorists and their facilitators," he said, and directed authorities to submit a report on the incident.
The chief minister condemned the targeting of innocent civilians, saying that the government will foil any and all attempts to promote instability in the province.
