KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a short interim order in writing in connection with the suo motto case on Karachi violence hours after it reserved verdict on the case, Geo News reported Thursday.
The five-judge bench, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, which is hearing a suo motto case on Karachi violence issued the interim order.
In the short order, SC directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi to obtain duly signed certificates from all zonal DIGs in which they declare that no effort would be spared towards putting a check on extortion and other criminal activities.
It also ordered the Advocate General Sindh to submit a report to the court over investigations carried out on criminal cases registered after July 24, 2011 and the progress made thereon.
The order further directs that the police investigation report be submitted through Registrar Supreme Court at the chamber of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani on daily basis.
The cases be disposed of at the earliest by holding court proceedings on daily basis, the order further stated.
In the ruling, the Sindh Government has been directed to ensure, through Sindh Chief Secretary, every possible cooperation of law enforcing agencies and other departments to the courts in connection with carrying out proceedings against the accused.
