QUETTA: Large parts of Mastung, Pishin and Ziarat remained without gas supply when work to repair two pipelines damaged in a flood in Bolan could not be started even after 27 hours on Monday.

A Sui Southern Gas Company (SSCG) spokesperson said roads leading to Sibi and Quetta have been damaged due to recent floods, making it difficult for technical teams to reach the location to repair the lines.

“Due to recent heavy rainfall, two out of three SSGC main pipe lines have been damaged in Balochistan near Bi Bi Nani area, with the result that gas supply to Balochistan has been affected,” the spokesperson said.

He said that as soon as the damaged roads were open for travel, SSGC's maintenance team will rush to the spots to repair the lines so that gas supply to the affected areas can resume.

Heavy rains in various parts of Balochistan during the past 24-36 hours have generated flash flood flows in hill torrents and local nullahs in Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, Lasbela, Gwadar, Kachhi, Dera Bugti and surroundings areas, according to PPI.

On Saturday, two SSGC pipelines washed away in heavy downpour in the province. So far, at least four people have been killed in rain-related incidents in the province.
