Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday that the $7bn Main Line-One project will not only fortify Pakistan Railways but also create thousands of jobs for the skilled people in a push towards industrialisation.

The prime minister chaired a meeting regarding the Peshawar to Karachi railways project today, according to Radio Pakistan.

In today’s meeting, the premier said that the project will provide advanced travel and freight facilities to the residents of the country.

Calling it as a new chapter for the socio-economic development, the prime minister said the project will significantly bring down the cost of doing business and bring ease for the business community.

PM Imran said that the project will also contribute to the welfare of the people, adding that the development of the country is PTI-government’s top priority.

Earlier this month, the National Economic Council approved the up-gradation of Pakistan Railways' Mainline-1 (ML-1) at an estimated cost of $6.806bn.

The project, which equals to Rs11.44 trillion in total, and involves the upgradation of the Walton Academy, is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
