MULTAN: 54 dengue patients have been discharged from Nishtar Hospital Multan during the last five weeks, doctors said on Monday.

Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS) of Nishtar Hospital Dr Faheem Javed told APP that first dengue patient arrived on August 15, and so far 86 patients had been brought to the hospital. Eleven patients reached the hospital last Sunday night.

However, only 32 patients were now under treatment, 26 of them confirmed dengue cases and the rest awaiting test results. 54 patients have been discharged after full recovery during the last five weeks, he said.

Dr Faheem said that 16 patients were brought from Khanewal alone. All patients brought to Multan had ordinary dengue fever and not the hemorrhagic or shock syndrome.

He said that family ward No. 27 had been declared as an isolation ward with 40 beds exclusively for dengue fever patients. Consultants, PGRs and MOs pay regular visits to the ward to ensure proper treatment to the patients.

He said that there was no dearth of medicines while the Punjab government had also sent insecticide-treated mosquito nets to the hospital in a sufficient number.

Dr Faheem said the dengue problem could be overcome provided the administration covered all places in residential areas during the fumigation campaign and people wore clothes that covered all their body including the arms. He also advised people to wear socks.

He said that people should spray anti-mosquito medicine in their houses and also use mosquito repellents such as coils.
