GUJRANWALA: Frustrated with relentless power outages, residents of Gujranwala continued their protest for the third consecutive day which once again turned violent as the protester clashed with the police, Geo News reported Tuesday.
However, this time around the police were ready to tackle the protestors and unlike Monday they were not allowed to cause damage on a large scale. Police used tear gas and aerial firing to disperse the protestors in several areas of the city.
Hundreds of irate protestors carrying banners and black flags took to the streets to vent their anger against the worst power outages in the country's history.
They chanted full-throated slogans against the management of the utility and pelted the policemen present their to quell the situation with stones.
Shops and businesses remained shuttered down as a result of traders' strike against the persistent electricity loadshedding.
The traders warned that they would stop paying their electricity bills in case the concerned authorities fail to improve power supply situation.
Multan, Jhang, Chiniot, Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Sargodha and Vihari are also experiencing 12 to 16 hours of scheduled and unscheduled loadsheding.
