LHC restrains Elahi from rally

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has banned Senior Federal Minister and PML-Q leader, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi from an election rally in Sahiwal.

Elahi was to address the rally held in connection with PP-220 (Sahiwal-1) by-polls. The court also summoned PML-Q candidate Pir Muzaffar Shah Khagga and DPO Sahiwal on October 15th.

Rana Asad Advocate, brother of Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan pleaded before the court that according to Election Commission's election rules no federal or provincial minister could attend a public gathering and Pervez Elahi's address to the rally would tantamount to use of government machinery and casting influence on polls and must be stopped.

The LHC accepted the request and restrained the minister.
