LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said Iran and Pakistan will have to come closer for solving problems being faced at international level.
He stated this during a meeting with an Iranian delegation led by Deputy Interior Minister of Iran Hassan Qadimi on Monday.
Shahbaz told the delegation that the worst flood caused massive destruction last year, thousands of villages were wiped out and crops were destroyed.
The government, he said, immediately started relief activities and took steps for rehabilitation of flood affectees. He said Iran helped Pakistani brethren for which he was thankful to them. He said the Iranian delegation coming for the assistance of flood affectees could join the rehabilitation programme for flood-hit people and a plan could also be evolved collectively for this purpose. He said Iranian cooperation would help further the programme of setting up model villages in flood-hit areas of Punjab.
The leader of the Iranian delegation Qadimi said Iran and Pakistan were linked with strong friendly ties and bilateral relations were further improving with a passage of time. He said steps taken by the Punjab government for rehabilitation of flood affectees were commendable. (APP)
