People-friendly policies urged to end poverty
MULTAN: Scores of NGO workers staged a walk to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and stressed the government to form people-friendly policies to eliminate poverty from the country.

The workers were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans and demands for elimination of poverty as it was eating up social fabric.

Regional Coordinator Awaz Foundation, Mohammad Ziaur Rehman said that poverty could disturb law and order and damage social norms.

He said the government would have to focus on elimination of poverty and raise living standard in the country.

According to a UN report, about 74 per cent population of the country is facing shortage of food, he added.

He also urged the government to take solid steps to control the population. The world population will be seven billion by 2015 and it would multiply food shortage issues, he feared.
