According to sources, 32 students of Government College of Technology were present in the boat at the time of incident.
As the boat was packed with passengers beyond its capacity, that is why it overturned in the canal.
Some students successfully made their way to the shore while some were saved by the locals. Four students, however, lost their lives and 12 were still missing.
The rescue teams will resume the search today.
