FAISALABAD: The Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST) has ranked Botany department of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) as second best in the country.
Speakers on one-day seminar on “Role of Botanical Science in Agricultural Development” arranged by the department at New Senate Hall here on Friday.
UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad presided over the event and said today botanists study over 550,000 species of living organisms and it is the mother of all agricultural sciences.
Dean Faculty of Sciences Professor Dr Muhammad Ashraf stressed the need to adopt model of education of China, having a university town where various universities are operating in competitive environment.
Professor Dr Ejaz Rasool from LUMS said there were plants that generate oxygen, food, fuel and medicines that allow humans and other life forms to exist.
Chairman Department of Botany UAF Professor Dr Abdul Wahid said the department had produced 37 PhDs, 60 M.Phils and 80 MScs so far.
Professor Dr Rehana Asghar from Mirpur University of Science and Technology, Dr Yousuf Zafar from PAEC, Professor Dr. Fauzia from COMSATS and others also spoke. (APP)
