AUCKLAND: Pakistan team in the 33rd Hockey Champions Trophy (HCT), which opens in Auckland Saturday lost its first match against England by 2-1, Geo News reported.
The 8-nation event, which got underway here today at North Harbor hockey stadium, was won by England against Pakistan 2-1 while Australia defeated Spain by 3-2.
Pakistan returned to the fold of elite Champions trophy hockey tournament after six years courtesy to a wild card entry.
Pakistan last participated in the Champions Trophy in 2005 in Germany, finishing at fifth place and since then they could not qualify for the event and this time FIH has guaranteed them a place by allocating a wild card .
