Media workshop organized for journalists
FAISALABAD: The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in collaboration with Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Faisalabad Union of Journalists (FUJ) has organized one-day workshop on "Media Rights' Monitoring" for Pakistani journalists at a local hotel on Thursday.

Outgoing Secretary General of the PFUJ Shamsul Islam Naz conducted the workshop which was also attended by female journalists.

The main purposes of the workshop was to create awareness among the journalists about their rights, to monitor implementation on press laws, violations of journalists' rights, writing an effective alert regarding violation of these rights and ensuring safety of working journalists.

The participants of the workshop were divided in various groups and were given presentations on media rights' monitoring, filing of alerts, repairing alerts, advocacy and campaigning.

The participants termed the event as an opportunity for the media persons to be aware about the violation of their rights and guide other journalists in this regard through campaigning.

During the workshop, the speakers highlighted in details various aspects of safety of journalists, protection of their rights.

They told that the media persons have many legitimate rights under the provisions of various laws including UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Article 19, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Constitution of Pakistan, UN International Convent on Civil and Political rights, Article 21 as they have to give accurate, objective, credible and authentic reports for the information of the general public therefore, no one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Highlighting the importance and salient features of the workshop, they said that everyone including the journalists has the right to liberty and security.

The participants were told in details about the rights of the journalists.

Later, the President of the FUJ Ghulam Mohiy-ud-Din and the Shamsul Islam Naz distributed certificates among the participants.
