India has still not accepted Pakistan’s existence: Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD: Criticising recent statements by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Tuesday said that India stills wants to create conditions to destabilize Pakistan.

It appears that India has still not accepted the existence of Pakistan, said the opposition leader speaking on the floor of the National Assembly.

He said that Modi's statement has proved that India played a role in creating Bangladesh and breaking up Pakistan.

He said that a resolution should be passed by the National Assembly condemning the Indian Prime Minister's statement.

Shah's words in the assembly were followed by a separate statement from the Foreign Office slamming Modi's recent admission of India's involvement in the 1971 war.

Modi made the controversial statements on Sunday during his visit to Bangladesh, which was East Pakistan before becoming a separate country after the 1971 war.

The Indian Prime Minister had recalled his participation in the Jana Sangh campaign backing the rebels in former East Pakistan as he accepted a ‘liberation war’ honour on behalf of former Indian premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Admitting that there had been a conspiracy to divide Pakistan, he said the establishment of Bangladesh was a desire of every Indian citizen and that was why Indian forces fought along with the Mukti Bahini, thus creating a new country.

Modi said he was one of the young volunteers who came to Delhi in 1971 to participate in the Satyagraha Movement launched by Jana Sangh as a volunteer to garner support for the Mukti Bahini members.
