KARACHI: Karachi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum visited the Mazar-e-Quaid Mausoleum on the occasion of Defence Day, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Monday.

The ISPR statment said that the corps commander laid floral wreaths on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and paid homage to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's mausoleum. He also recited fatiha at Jinnah’s grave and later inked his remarks in the visitor’s book.

Earlier this morning, a change of guard ceremony was also held at the Quaid's mausoleum during which cadets of PAF Asghar Khan Academy assumed ceremonial guard duties at the mausoleum.

Pakistan marked its 56th Defence Day on Monday and celebrated the day with full zeal and fervour.

This year's Defense and Martyrs' Day theme was "Our martyrs our pride; salute to all the relatives belonging to ghazis and Shaheeds.”

On September 6, 1965, the armed forces of Pakistan successfully thwarted an Indian onslaught in the dead of night. Pakistan's armed forces and their heroics helped push back the enemy in a successful defence that saw the entire nation back its troops during the war.
